I'm not sure how best to eulogize the two women I've come to know through the breast cancer blogosphere other than to say the "sisterhood" is grieving the substantial loss this week of Rachel Cheetham Moro and Susan Niebur. Both died after years of living with metastatic breast cancer.
Though my only connection to them was through the web, I felt a kinship in that they were young professionals who were openly critical of the pink ribbon movement and spoke about issues of living and dying with great honesty. I appreciated their insights and learned a lot from following their blogs.
I don't like talking about them in past tense. I fucking hate cancer.

Just want you to know that because of you and Susan Neibur I registered with Army of Women and signed up to participate in a study of breast cancer in young women. She's still working for better research.
ReplyDeleteI hate talking about them in the past tense too. I hate how the losses keep piling up. I hate how the seriousness of breast cancer continues to be down-played. I hate how the 'positive attitude can beat cancer' idea is still out there. I hate how change is coming so slowly. I hate cancer period.
ReplyDeleteOh, that wretched past tense...never have I hate grammar like I do now. And cancer.
